Improving Your Credit Score
If you are considering bankruptcy, you are probably very concerned about your credit score. It may be preventing you from getting a credit card or a loan. A bad credit score can even prevent you from getting a job.
While many people are afraid of filing for bankruptcy because they believe it will irreparably damage their credit rating, the truth is that bankruptcy may be the beginning of rehabilitating your credit.
My name is Patrick J. Conway. As a Cincinnati bankruptcy attorney, I have been helping people get out of debt for 29 years. I help my clients improve their credit scores and make sound decisions regarding their financial future. At my law firm, Patrick J. Conway, LLC, I personally handle all client cases. I represent people who live in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. I invite you to contact my Cincinnati bankruptcy law office with your bankruptcy questions. We can discuss the impact of Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 on your credit score in a free initial consultation.
Ways to Get Your Credit Score Up
Getting rid of debt is the first step in rehabilitating your credit. When you hire me, I will immediately pull your credit report for you. In 90 percent of my cases, clients have improved their credit reports by 60 to 120 points within one year of filing for bankruptcy.
It's important to check your credit report to ensure it is accurate and complete. It's common for credit reports to have inaccuracies in them. Make sure that credit reporting companies are not giving creditors the wrong information about you.
A Chapter 13 bankruptcy repayment plan will help you get and stay current on your debt. As you make monthly payments on your credit card debt, car payments and mortgage payments, you will find your credit gradually improving. If you are behind on your payments, your repayment plan will fold those missed payments into your new payments so you get caught up. Are you having trouble with a car loan? You may be able to negotiate a lower interest rate or you may be able to get a personal loan.
